Nikko Grand Autumn Festival

EN: The reason why I took a day off at my Japanese work was simple – there was a Great Autumn Festival going on in Nikko and because of the “god’s will” the parade takes place on Monday, which is highly unusual, since most of the working men, women and families cannot really attend it. But still – there were enough people over there to fulfill the festive mood. The festival is also called The Parade of 1000 Samurai Warriors and as its alternative name suggests – there were quite a few people dressed in traditional Japanese war suits marching down the main alley in Nikko from Toshogu shrine.

The whole thing was double interesting, because I joined the native Japanese guide and one other tourist from Israel, who I met in the hotel the day before (I really like those unexpected meetings and getting to know new people out of the blue, it broadens one’s horizons quite a bit), I found out a lot of interesting stuff not only about the Nikko temples and shrines, but also about Buddhism, Shintoism and other things. I really value that day, it was a rare occassion when I stopped being a cynical, sarcastic individual and I enjoyed the whole thing as much as I could. I also have some videos from the festival and other things, so you can have a look on my YouTube Channel.
